Tong Named National Player of the Week

Hannah Tong, a sophomore on the Oilers volleyball team, was named the Sports Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Player of the Week on Nov. 4.

Tong, who was voted the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) South Division Player of the Week on Monday, led the Oilers to four wins last week.  The sophomore outside hitter racked up 71 kills in the four wins, which included a school record-breaking 31 in Findlay's 3-2 victory over Malone on Nov. 1. Tong's 31 kills eclipsed the previous record of 30, which was set by Mallory Fleming against Northern Michigan on Oct. 14, 2007 and Kara Heitmeyer versus Wayne State on Nov. 1, 2003.

Tong also had 13 kills in the Oilers 3-0 win over Hillsdale on Oct. 28 and 23 more kills in Findlay's 3-1 victory against Walsh on Oct. 31. She closed the week by registering four kills in Findlay's 3-0 win over Alderson-Broaddus on Nov. 1.

The Carey, Ohio native leads the GLIAC in kills (348) and kills per set (3.70). She was also voted the GLIAC South Division Player of the Week on Oct. 6 and Oct. 20.

Tong and the Oilers will return to the court again tonight when they host Cedarville at 7:30 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.
