Oilers Shoot Down Eagles for 11th Straight Victory

Box Score

The University of Findlay volleyball team made it 11 straight wins to end the regular season following a 3-2 (25-23, 25-19, 21-25, 18-25, 15-9) victory over Ashland on Saturday, November 8. The victory pushed the Oilers record to 22-6 and 15-3 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). That record is good enough to wrap up the South Division Championship heading into tournament play and also places Findlay atop the conference in wins.

Leading the Oilers was junior Julie Lyons who had a breakout game in which she picked up 16 kills while hitting .464. The duo of sisters Andrea and Erika Roach combined for 20 kills as they picked up 12 and eight, respectively.

Leading the team defensively was junior Becca Shoemaker. The Oilers libero amassed 17 digs in the win and also aced the Eagles three times. Freshman Megan Wendel was no slouch on defense as she picked up 10 digs.

Another offensive threat was senior Amanda Calhoun. She had 42 assists for Findlay and four aces.

The Oilers will be back in action this coming Wednesday, November 12, as they begin postseason play. They will host Malone University at 7:30 p.m. in a quarterfinal matchup during the 2014 GLIAC Tournament.
