Oilers Advance to Semis With 3-0 Win Over Malone

The University of Findlay volleyball team advanced the semifinals of the 2014 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-23) win over Malone University on Nov. 12 in Croy Gymnasium.

The Oilers, who have now won 12 straight matches, hit .356 for the match to earn the right to keep playing in the tournament. They will be advancing to the semifinals for only the second time in school history. The 2003 squad also made a trip to the semifinals.

Sophomore Hannah Tong led the way for Findlay, who is now 23-6, with 13 kills while red-shirt freshman Nickyla Garverick had 11.

Freshman Erika Roach smashed eight kills while her sister, junior Andrea Roach, had seven kills.

Junior Julie Lyons contributed six kills while senior Amanda Calhoun stuffed the stat sheet with three kills, three aces, seven digs and 38 assists.

Findlay, the three-seed in the tournament, will face third-seed Ferris State University in the second round of the tournament on Nov. 15. The semifinals and finals of the tournament will be held in Allendale, Mich.
