The University of Findlay volleyball team will host their annual TownePlace Suites Classic on Sep. 9-10 in Croy Gymnasium.

Findlay

The Oilers began their season at the Hampton Inn Invitational in Pensacola, Fla. against some of the best NCAA Division II teams in the nation. The Oilers went 1-3 at the tournament and were led by junior Nickyla Garverick, who earned a spot on the all-tournament team with her steallar play.

The Oilers began the event with a 3-0 loss to 9th-ranked Central Missouri. The Oilers couldn't quite seem to get over the hump against Central Missouri as they fell 26-24, 26-24, 25-22).

Sophomore Amanda Winner led the Oilers attack with 12 kills and senior Hannah Tong also reached the double digit kill plateau with 11 kills.

Garverick paced Findlay's defense with one solo block and seven assists and sophomore Hailee Olson helped the cause with five block assists, while also accumulating 33 assists in the match. Sophomore Kara Scherger came away with 17 digs as well.

The Oilers then took a 3-1 (27-29, 25-23, 21-21, 21-25) loss against 23rd-ranked West Florida before falling 3-0 (24-26, 24-26, 13-25) to 2nd-ranked Wheeling Jesuit, the defending NCAA Division II National Champion.

In the loss against West Florida, Winner once again led the way with 16 kills while Tong and Garverick had 12 and 11, respectively.  Olson distributed the ball well throughout the match and ended the game with 49 assists while Scherger ended up with 20 digs.

In the Wheeling Jesuit loss, Garverick led the Oilers with 13 kills and ended the match with a .524 kill percentage.  Tong added 11 kills while Olson continued to show off her passing skills with 34 assists. Scherger and Winner led the defense with 14 and 10 digs respectively.  Scherger also added three serving aces in the match.

After starting 0-3, the Oilers got their first win of the season with a 3-0 (28-26, 25-13, 25-18) victory against Carson-Newman.

Leading the way for Findlay Winner, who finished with 13 kills.  Tong contributed 11 kills and ended the match with a .478 hitting percentage.

Olson finished with 29 assists while freshman Molly Hammersmith led the team with two serving aces.

Defensively, Scherger recorded 17 digs and senior Mallorie Kah controlled the net with four block assists.

Clarion

Clarion is 2-2 on the season. They began the year at the Tony Banner Memorial Tournament and scored wins over Merrimack and Lake Erie. They also lost to Cedarville and Hillsdale. Taylor Braunagel led the team with 41 kills in the four matches while Olivia Olson had 27 kills and 18 blocks.

Hillsdale

The Chargers competed in the Tony Banner Memorial Tournament to start the season and went 3-1. They defeated Merrimack, Cedarville and Clarion, and lost to Gannon. Kara Vyletel led the team with 49 kills and 47 digs while Erin Holsinger accumulated 31 kills and 18 blocks.

Malone

The Pioneers went 2-2 at the Hall of Fame City Challenge. They scored victories over Notre Dame (Ohio) and Mercyhurst. They took losses against Ohio Dominican and Southern Wesleyan. Mallory Adams paced the team with 51 kills while Veronica Gehring registered 39.

Ohio Dominican

The Panthers went 2-2 at the Hall of Fame City Challenge, winning contests against Malone and Southern Wesleyan. They fell to Mercyhurst and Notre Dame (Ohio) at the tournament as well. Jackie Oestreich and Tory Thompson provided the firepower with 58 kills apiece.

Pitt-Johnstown

The Mountain Cats went 2-2 at the Tampa Classic, winning matches against Henderson State and Franklin Pierce. They suffered losses against Minnesota State-Mankato and Tampa. Cambria Wierman led the offense with 37 kills while Marissa Erminio had 31.
