Findlay Defeats Pioneers 3-0

The University of Findlay volleyball team wrapped up competition at the TownePlace Suites Classic at Croy Gymnasium in Findlay, Ohio with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-23) victory over Malone University.  The win moves the Oilers to 4-3 on the season heading into Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play next week.

Findlay's offense played a key part in the victory.  They finished the match with a team kill percentage of .372.  Senior Hannah Tong continued to excel in the tournament, as she finished the match with 16 kills.  Sophomore Amanda Winner contributed with 14 kills, two serving aces, and five digs.  Tong and Winner both posted kill percentages over .400 for the match.

Junior Nickyla Garverick and freshman Molly Hammersmith led the defense at the net, as Garverick had three block assists and Hammersmith added one solo block and two block assists.

Sophomore Hailee Olson orchestrated the offense with 36 assists and fellow sophomore teammate, Kara Scherger, helped the cause defensively with 10 digs.

Gaverick earned All-Tournament team honors for her performance this weekend.  Joining her on the All-Tournament team for the Oilers were Scherger (Outstanding Libero) and the Tournament MVP Tong.

The Findlay volleyball team returns back in action on Friday, Sep. 16, when they host GLIAC foe, Ashland University.  The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
