Oilers Fall in Five to Alaska Fairbanks | Conclude Alaska Trip

Fairbanks, Alas.- The University of Findlay volleyball team concluded their trip to Alaska yesterday as they faced Alaska Fairbanks on Saturday, Sep. 3 at the Denali State Bank Ice Blocker Classic. The Oilers fell to the Nanooks by a score of 3-2 (25-18, 21-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-12). The Oilers fall to 1-6 on the year. With the win,  Alaska Fairbanks moved to 10-2 and were crowned the 2022 Denali State Bank Ice Blocker Classic Champions.

The Oilers were led by sophomore Journey Blevins. She had 22 kills on 52 attempts and hit .25. Assisting Blevins were senior Norah Painter and freshman Alana Pohlman. Painter contributed 13 kills while Pohlman added 12.  Senior Emma Meyer had 8 kills on the night.  

On the defensive side, sophomore Ava Doster had 29 digs. The Oilers combined for 14 blocks on the night. Emma Meyer and Alana Pohlman both recorded five each while Natalie Maras and Emma White contributed two each.

Freshman Emma White had 55 assists in the match and added 6 digs. 

The Oilers hit .208 for the match while the Nanooks hit .180. 

The Oilers open Great Midwest play Wednesday, Sep. 7 as they take on Ursuline at 7pm in Croy Gymnasium.
