Oilers Finish Jesse Owens Classic On Easter

The University of Findlay men's and women's outdoor track and field teams completed the Jesse Owens Classic on Sunday, April 24 on the campus of Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.

On the women's side, Lindsey Schmitmeyer placed third in the 800-meter run with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 2:11.74 while Raven Clay was sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a NCAA automatic qualifying time of 13.57 and 12th in the 200-meter dash at 24.86.

On the men's side, Cory Vales took fourth in the high jump with a provisional leap of 6'09.50 to lead the team.

Lyndon Johnson finished fifth in the 200-meter dash at 21.52 and also took ninth in the 100-meter dash at 10.86.

The Oilers 4x400-meter relay team of Greg Schaible, Simon Bernard, Curtis Smithey and John Guagenti placed eighth after crossing the finish line in 3:13.70, a provisional mark as well.

Guagenti added an eighth place finish in the 400-meter dash (48.09), Smithey was 13th in the same event (48.71) and Schaible was 16th in the 400 as well (49.08).

Shawnathan Fort placed 20th in the 400 at 49.42 and Joe Guerra was 22nd in the 800 at 1:55.91.

The Oilers will be back in action again on April 28 at the Penn Relays.
