Oilers Rack Up All-American Awards At Nationals

The University of Findlay men's and women's outdoor track and field teams completed the third and final day of competition at the 2011 NCAA Division II National Championship on Saturday, May 28 in Turlock, California.

The men, who finished 27th with 11 points, were led by Shane Shockey who earned All-American honors in the pole vault, finishing third with a mark of 16'10.

The Oilers 4s400-meter relay team of John Guagenti, Curtis Smithey, Simon Bernard and Greg Schaible were tabbed All-Americans after finishing seventh in their event with a time of 3:14.39.

Guagenti also took eighth in the 400-meter dash at 48.13 to earn All-American honors while Cody Crockett placed 12th in the javelin at 190'06.

The women scored 11 points to place 24th and were led by Raven Clay who finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles at 13.33 to earn All-American honors.

She also earned the distinction after teaming with Lindsey Schmitmeyer, Christine Zimmermann and Catherine Wiemers to take sixth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:45.90.

Schmitmeyer also added a sixth place finish in the 800-meter run after crossing the finish line in 2:16.77, earning All-American honors for her performance.
