Smithey, Clay standout for Oilers at Golden Flash Gala

The University of Findlay men and women's indoor track and field teams completed the final day of the Golden Flash Gala on Saturday, Dec. 10 in Kent, Ohio.

On the men's side, Curtis Smithey took the top spot in the 300 meter dash with a time of 35.36 and was part of the 4x400-meter relay team that placed fifth with an NCAA provisional time of 3:19.49, along with Tim Sanders, Shawnathan Fort and John Guagenti.

Guagenti also took second in the 400-meter dash with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 48.38 as well as fourth in the 200-meter dash with an NCAA provisional time of 22.00.

Sanders finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.54.

Corey Vales was the standout for the Oilers in field events finishing second in the high jump with an NCAA provisional qualifying leap of 6'10.75

On the women's side, Raven Clay once again showed her dominance by taking the top spot in the 60-meter hurdles with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 8.40.  Clay also notched a third place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.83, and a fifth place NCAA provisional mark in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.71.

In women's field events, Pam Showman and Brittany Thomas placed fifth and sixth in the high jump with leaps of 5'03.00 and 5'01.00, respectfully.

The Oilers track and field teams will be back in action on Jan. 13th when they head to Oberlin, Ohio for the Oberlin Invitational.
