Vicars, Rowland Have Impressive Day At Findlay Open
The University of Findlay indoor track and field teams completed the Findlay Open on Friday, Feb. 3rd in the Malcolm Athletic Center.
Derrick Vicars impressed in his season debut for the Oilers setting a new school record with a second place, NCAA automatic qualifying heave of 61'05.50 in the shot put elite event, as well as a first place, NCAA provisional qualifying heave of 65'07.00 in the weight throw.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Shane Stein, Andrew Leemaster, Jacob Miller and Harold Jones-Quartey placed third with a time of 3:43.44. Individually, Leemaster also had a fifth place finish in the 800-meter run (2:02.78), while Miller had a fifth place finish in the 400-meter dash (53.63) and a fourth place finish in the shot put (51'04.25) behind Darren Bass (52'04.50) who took third in the event.
On the women's side, Jessica Rowland showed her dominance with an NCAA automatic qualifying, school record heave of 50'00.00 in her first place effort in the shot put event, as well as a third place, NCAA automatic qualifying toss of 64'02.25 in the weight throw. That mark was also good enough to set the school record.
Laura Kelly and Bethany Grimes finished second and third in the high jump, each hitting marks of 4'11.00, while Taylor Ackerman took fifth in the long jump with a mark of 14'11.50.
In the running events, Samantha Hassen finished third in the 3,000-meter run (10:58.98), Emily Caudill took fourth in the 400-meter dash (1:02.70), and Taylor Ackerman had a fourth place finish in the 60-meter dash (8:43).
The Oilers track and field teams will be back in action tomorrow at the NCAA Division II Team Challenge in Geneva, Ohio.
