The University of Findlay men and women's track and field teams completed a split meet on Saturday, Feb. 11th at the Boston University Valentine Invitational in Boston Mass. and at the Akron Invitational in Akron, Ohio.

Corey Vales had an exciting day for the men at the Valentine Invitational, placing first in the high jump, after a jump off, for an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 6'10.25.

In the 4x400-meter relay, the team of Shawnathan Fort, Tim Sanders, Curtis Smithey and John Guagenti took third with and NCAA automatic qualifying time of 3:13.81.  Individually, Guagenti took seventh in the 200-meter dash with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 21.79, Sanders placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 8.25, and Fort took 35th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.59.

Smithey also paired up with Joe Guerra, Dillon Webster and Justin Eilerman to set the new school record in the distance medley relay with an 11th place, NCAA provisional qualifying time of 10:10.04.

In other events, Shoayb Bascal set the new school record in the 5,000-meter run with his 33rd place time of 14:56.79, Webster finished 23rd in the 800-meter run with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:53.09, while Guerra took 66th in the same event with a time of 1:56.00 and Eilerman finished 59th in the 3,000-meter run (8:36.94).

Members of the men and women's field teams were in action at the Akron Invitational as Derrick Vicars led the Oilers with a second place finish in the shot put gold division with a heave of 17.57m, and a fourth place finish in the discus throw gold division with a toss of 51.76.

On the women's side, Brittany Thomas placed second in the high jump (1.66m), Jessica Rowland took fourth in the shot put gold division (14.70m) and weight throw gold division (18.85m), and Pam Showman finished fifth in the high jump gold division (1.60m)
