Track Finishes Day One Of GLIAC Championship
The University of Findlay men and women's track and field teams completed the first day of the 2012 GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, Feb. 24th at the Malcolm Athletic Center in Findlay, Ohio.
The women are currently in eighth place with nine points while Grand Valley State leads the field with 66 total points.
Raven Clay qualified for the finals in three events with a first place, NCAA provisional qualifying time of 7.70 in the 60-meter dash, a first place, NCAA automatic qualifying, meet record time of 8.33 in the 60-meter hurdles, as well as a fourth place, NCAA provisional qualifying time of 25.38 in the 200-meter dash.
Jhazmyn Anderson qualified for the finals with her sixth place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.66, while the team of Alexa Stults, Kirsten Gaerke, Deidre Latham and Rachel Hosie finished eighth in the distance medley event with a time of 12:42.93.
Pam Showman set a new school record with her fifth place, NCAA provisional qualifying score of 3394 in the pentathlon, while Jessica Rowland took fifth in the weight throw with an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 62'08.00.
The Oilers men a currently in second place with 20 points behind Ashland, who currently holds the lead with 43 points.
John Guagenti qualified for the finals with his third place, NCAA provisional qualifying time of 22.13 in the 200-meter dash, as well as the 400-meter dash with his first place, NCAA provisional qualifying time of 48.76. Curtis Smithey also qualified in the 400-meter dash with an eighth place finish (50.16).
In the 60-meter hurdles, Tim Sanders qualified for the finals with a second place, NCAA provisional qualifying time of 8.20.
The team of Smithey, Joe Guerra, Dillon Webster and Justin Eilerman finished fourth in the distance medley with a time of 10:16.28 while Shoayb Bascal took sixth in the 500-meter run with a time of 15:00.50.
In field events, Glen Forsythe finished third in the long jump with a mark of 22'02.25, and Derrick Vicars set a new school record in the weight throw with his NCAA automatic qualifying toss of 69'06.75.
