Oilers Wrap Up GLIAC Championship

The University of Findlay men's and women's track and field teams completed the final day of the 2012 GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Malcolm Athletic Center in Findlay, Ohio.

The men's team finished in third place with 108 points while the women's team also finished third with a total of 63.75 points.

On the men's side, John Guagenti was named the running event athlete of the meet while Derrick Vicars earned field athlete of the meet honors.  Head coach Mark Arce was rewarded with co-coach of the year honors.  

Guagenti won a GLIAC title in the 400-meter dash with an NCAA provisional time of 48.13 and also took first in the 200-meter dash with and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 22.15.

Tim Sanders placed first in the 60-meter hurdles with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 8.08 as well for the Oilers.

Dillon Webster and Joe Guerra finished second and fifth in the 800-meter run with times of 1:54.77 and 1:56.20, respectively, while Justin Eilerman took sixth in the 1-mile run with a time of 4:16.02, and Shoayb Bascal finished eighth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:42.87.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Shawnathan Fort, Curtis Smithey, Sanders and Guagenti took second with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:18.60.

In field events, Shane Shockey finished first in the pole vault with an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 16'08.25 while Vicars and Darren Bass took first and sixth in the shot put.  Vicars finished with an NCAA automatic qualifying heave of 62'06.00 while Bass finished with an NCAA provisional qualifying heave of 53'01.75.

Cory Vales took second in the high jump with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 6'08.25 while Colin Thomas and Glen Forsythe finished seventh and eighth in the triple jump with marks of 45'01.75 and 44'06.00, respectively.

On the women's side, Raven Clay dominated the 60-meter hurdles event, setting a meet record with her first place, NCAA automatic qualifying time of 8.27.  She also took second in the 60-meter dash with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 7.67 and third in the 200-meter dash with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 25.11.

Jhazmyn Anderson took sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.69 while Alexa Stults finished seventh in the 1-mile run with a time of 5:13.47 and Christine Zimmermann took seventh in the 800-meter run with and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 2:15.26.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Clay, Zimmermann, Anderson and Catherine Wiemers finished second with and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:55.11.

Brittany Thomas led the women in field events, finishing second in the high jump with a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 5'06.50 while Jessica Rowland and Kendra Averesch took fourth and seventh in the shot put, each with NCAA provisional qualifying heaves of 48'08.00 and 44'08.25, respectively.
