Oilers Finish Day One Of Wake Forest Open

The University of Findlay men's and women's track and field teams completed day one of the Wake Forest Open on Friday, March 16 in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Jessica Rowland led the Oilers with a first place, NCAA automatic qualifying, school record toss of 186'10.00 in the hammer throw and a fourth place, NCAA provisional qualifying, school record heave of 46'10.00 in the shot put.

Raven Clay had no problem transitioning from the indoor to outdoor season as she finished second in the 100-meter hurdles prelims with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 13.56.

On the men's side, Derrick Vicars led his team with a first place, NCAA automatic qualifying mark, school record heave of 59'00.75 in the shot put and a second place finish in the hammer throw with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 191'05.00.

Taylor Miller took second in the shot put with a NCAA provisional qualifying heave of 54'02.75.

Shoayb Bascal finished third in the 5,000-meter run, setting a new school record with a time of 14:55.86.

In other events, Tim Sanders finished fifth in the 110-meter hurdles prelims with a time of 14.75, Cody Crockett took seventh in the javelin event with an NCAA provisional qualifying, school record mark of 198'05.00, and Tim Majoy finished ninth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:47.55.

The Wake Forest Open will conclude tomorrow.
