Track Completes Toledo Collegiate Challenge

The University of Findlay men and women's track and field teams completed the Toledo Collegiate Challenge on Saturday, March 31st in Toledo, Ohio.

Derrick Vicars led the way for the men's team winning the discus with an NCAA provisional qualifying toss of 53.60m, and the shot put with an NCAA automatic qualifying heave of 18.38m.  He also finished second in the hammer throw with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 59.49m.

In other field events, Cory Vales won the high jump with a mark of 1.98m, Cody Crocket took first in the javelin with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 61.21m, and Glen Forsythe finished first in the triple jump with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 14.63m and third in the long jump with a mark of 6.70m.

Tim Sanders led the way in running events with a first place, NCAA provisional qualifying time of 53.08 in the 400-meter hurdles, and took fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (14.13), while Tim Majoy finished third in the 2,000-meter steeplechase (6:07.42), and Joe Guerra and Dillon Webster finished fourth and fifth in the 800-meter run with times of 1:55.81 and 1:56.03, respectively.

As a team, the men finished fourth overall with 113 total points while Central Michigan took first with 161 points.

On the women's side, Raven Clay had a big day with a first place, NCAA provisional qualifying time of 13.66 in the 100-meter hurdles and a first place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.52.

Alexa Stults finished third in the 5,000-meter run (17:52.20), Christine Zimmermann finished fifth in the 800-meter run (2:16.75) and Jhazmyn Anderson took eighth in the 400-meter dash (1:00.85).

In field events, Jessica Rowland took first in the hammer throw with an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 57.04m, took second in the javelin with a mark of 35.82m, and finished third in the shot put with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 14.17m. 

Kendra Averesch finished right behind Rowland in the shot put with a fourth place finish and mark of 13.15m, and took seventh in the discus with a toss of 38.94m.

As a team, the Oilers finished fourth with 67 points while Toledo won the event with 192 total points.

Both the men and women will be back in action on Friday, April 6th for the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio.
