Oilers Take 4th at Miami Invitational
The University of Findlay men's and women's outdoor track and field teams completed the Miami Invitational on Saturday, April 7 in Oxford, Ohio. The men's team placed third out of 14 teams with 122 points while the women came in fourth out of 18 teams with 67 points.
On the men's side, John Guagenti and Derrick Vicars each won a pair of events to pace the squad.
Guagenti won the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.90 and also took home top honors in the 400-meter dash with a meet record and NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 47.53.
Vicars won the shot put with a NCAA automatic qualifying and school record breaking toss of 61'02.75. He was also victorious in the discus throw with an automatic qualifying and school record breaking heave of 181'07.
Cory Vales added a first place finish in the high jump at 6'08 while Tim Sanders came away with a pair of second place finishes in the 110-meter hurdles (14.67) and 400-meter hurdles (53.46), which was a provisional mark.
Cody Crockett took second in the javelin at 190'01 while Glen Forsythe was second in the triple jump with a provisional hop of 47'09.75.
Darren Bass added a third place finish in the shot put with a provisional toss of 54'10 while Taylor Miller was fourth in the event with a provisional mark of 54'07.25.
Colin Thomas finished third in the triple jump at 45'04.25 while the Oilers 4x400-meter relay team of Sanders, Michael Travis, Guagenti and Dillon Webster finished third after crossing the finish line in 3:17.71.
The Oilers 4x100-meter relay team of Sanders, Curtis Smithey, Guagenti and Travis added a fifth place finish at 43.46.
On the women's side, Jessica Rowland had a big day as she took second in the shot put with a school record breaking and provisional toss of 47'01. She also broke a school record with a provisional heave of 160'03 in the discus and finished third in the javelin at 131'05, also a provisional mark.
Raven Clay scored a second place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a NCAA automatic qualifying time of 13.39 and also added a fourth place finish in the 100-meter dash at 12.41.
Brittany Thomas finished third in the high jump at 5'01.75 while Laura Kelly and Pam Showman were sixth in the event with equal marks of 5'01.75.
The Oilers 4x400-meter relay team of Clay, Christine Zimmermann, Jhazmyn Anderson and Alexa Stults crossed the finish line in 3:52.48, which was good for fifth place at the event.
The Oilers will be back out on the track again on April 13 to compete in the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn.
