Clay Named GLIAC Running Athlete of the Meet, Oilers Take 5th at GLIAC Championship

The University of Findlay men and women's track & field teams completed the final day of the GLIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday, May 4th in Allendale, Mich.

For the men, John Guagenti took first in the 400-meter dash with a NCAA automatic qualifying and school record breaking time of 46.39.  He also finished fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.70 and teamed with Tim Sanders, Curtis Smithey and Dillon Webster to place second in the 4x400-meter relay with a NCAA provisional time of 3:13.08.

For his efforts, Guagenti earned the honor of running athlete of the week, an award he captured during the indoor season as well.

Sanders placed first in the 110-meter hurdles with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 14.48 and was also fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a NCAA provisional time of 53.66.

Webster added a second place finish in the 800-meter run with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:52.35.

In men's field action, Derrick Vicars placed first in the shot put with a NCAA automatic qualifying heave of 61'07.75 and second in the discus with a NCAA provisional qualifying toss of 176'01 en route to being named the field athlete of the meet.

Vicars also captured the same honor during the indoor season.

Darren Bass and Taylor Miller placed second and fourth in the shot put with NCAA provisional qualifying marks of 57'10.25 and 57'01.50, respectively.  Miller also placed fourth in the discuss with a NCAA provisional qualifying toss of 162'01.

For the women, Raven Clay set an new GLIAC meet record with her NCAA automatic qualifying, first place time of 13.42 in the 100-meter hurdles and also placed fourth in the 100-meter dash (12.12) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (24.87).

For her efforts at the event, Clay was tabbed the running athlete of the meet.

Christine Zimmermann took fifth in the 800-meter run with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 2:11.86 while Jhazmyn Anderson finished ninth in the 400-meter dash (58.13) and Alexa Stults finished ninth in the 1,500-meter run (4:44.24).

Clay teamed up with Zimmermann, Shelby Stump and Anderson to take second in the 4x400-meter relay with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:49.75.

In women's field events, Jessica Rowland finished fourth in the shot put with a NCAA provisional heave of 47'11.25 and also placed seventh in the discus with a NCAA provisional qualifying toss of 147'06. 

Kendra Averesch took eighth in the shot put with a mark of 42'06.75.

As a team, the men finished third in points with a total of 117 while the women finished fifth with 64.66.
