Cecil Named First Team | Rodesky Second Team

GLIAC Release

Findlay, OH – Four University of Findlay baseball pitchers have earned all-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) honors following the 2016 season. The announcement came on Wednesday, May 11 during the awards banquet at the 2016 GLIAC Baseball Tournament in Xenia, Ohio.

Earning a spot on the 2016 All-GLIAC First Team is a junior pitcher, A.J. Cecil. Cecil, an Oak Harbor, Ohio native, had his best year in an Oilers uniform as he settled into the closer's role this season. For the year, Cecil pitched 17.1 innings and picked up 18 strikeouts while allowing just five earned runs. In the process, Cecil earned five saves, including back-to-back saves in a double-header on May 3 vs. Saginaw Valley. Those five saves place Cecil fifth all-time at Findlay for saves in a career. This is Cecil's first all-GLIAC award.

Collecting All-GLIAC Second Team honors is another junior from Bowling Green, Ohio, Austin Rodesky. Rodesky had a historic season in just his second year with the Oilers, finding his way into the record books as the best strikeout pitcher in Findlay history. This year, Rodesky fanned 98 batters, shattering the old record of 72 strikeouts, a record that had stood since 1976. His total strikeouts were second in the GLIAC this season while his strikeouts per nine innings of 11.81, also second in the conference, was 15th in the nation. Rodesky made 13 starts and threw 74.2 innings on the strength of seven complete games. In those 74.2 innings, only 27 earned runs were scored against the Oilers junior, giving him an ERA of 3.25. This second-team award comes following Rodesky's sophomore year in which he earned honorable mention all-GLIAC.

Sophomore Colin Gossard and senior Mason Mayberry each earned spots on the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention team.

Gossard, a Lima, Ohio native who will spend his summer playing for the reining Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League (GLSCL) champion Lima Locos, threw 45.2 innings this season and ended the year with the second-best ERA in the GLIAC at 3.15. He allowed just 16 earned runs on 40 hits this year. Gossard struck out 43 batters while walking just 19 this year. It is the first all-GLIAC award for Gossard.

Mayberry, from Bowling Green, Ohio, saved his best season for last as he made seven starts and picked up three wins on the mound for the Oilers. He tossed 45.0 innings on the year and struck out 42 batters while walking just 16. Mayberry had two complete-game shutouts this year, including a no-hitter on March 25 vs. Saginaw Valley, after which he won GLIAC and National Pitcher of the Week honors. Mayberry finished the year with a 3.60 ERA. It is the first all-GLIAC award for the Oilers' senior.
