Oilers Win Seventh Straight | Sweep Reigning G-MAC Champs

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay baseball made it seven straight wins with another double-header sweep over another Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) South Division opponent. The Oilers beat Trevecca Nazarene, last season's Great Midwest regular season champs, on Saturday, March 24 to improve to 14-4 overall and a 7-1 mark in league play while the Trojans fall to 12-15 overall and 3-5 in the conference.

Game 1 (W 10-2 | Box Score)

Findlay flexed their muscle early on, plating four runs in the first inning of action. After two quick outs to begin the inning, Nic Varda singled to give the Oilers their first runner of the game. A walked to freshman Tyler Burley was followed by an RBI single from freshman Ryan Johnson, the first hit of his college career. Three consecutive walks with the bases loaded pushed the Oilers lead to 4-0.

TNU got a single run back in the second but Findlay answered with one of their own in the fourth and then put the game away with four runs on two hits in the fifth. The big hit of the inning was a two-RBI double off the bat of Casey Gould that scored Tyler Archambeau and Cameron Johnson.

In just his second career start, Hunter Weis went the distance and allowed just two runs on eight hits. He walked three and struck out six batters to earn his first collegiate win.

In his first collegiate start, Ryan Johnson picked up three hits in five at-bats. Johnson had an RBI and scored a pair of runs to help lead the Oilers the win. Sophomore Casey Gould had a pair of hits and two RBI while Derrick Herd had one hit, an RBI, and two runs scored.

Game 2 (W 6-1 | Box Score)

The Oilers again took advantage of the first inning in the nightcap as they would take a 1-0 lead through the first frame. But it was not until the fourth inning that Findlay would take control.

Freshman Ryan Johnson led off the inning with an infield single and was followed by a hit from Josh Schwerer. Cameron Johnson then hit a ball to the TNU first baseman who, thinking there was a force at the plate, threw the ball home. Freshman Ryan O'Malley then roped a bases loaded double down the left field line to score three runs. A single from Casey Gould ended the scoring and gave the Oilers a 5-0 lead.

After a single run by the home team in the fifth, the Trojans finally got on the board in the seventh with one run and loaded the bases, but it was not enough as closer Josh Robinson came in to get the final out and earn his eighth save of the year, just two shy of the Great Midwest record.

Gould picked up two hits, one run, and one RBI in the game while Ryan Johnson, Josh Schwerer, and Ryan O'Malley each had a hit and a run scored. O'Malley also added three RBI.

Alex Harter earned his second win of the year to improve to 2-1 on the hit. He tossed five innings and did not allow a run on just two hits. He walked three and struck out eight.

Findlay will be back in action as they take on G-MAC South opponent Cedarville on Friday, March 30 in Cedarville, Ohio. That double-header is set to begin at 1:00 pm.
