Findlay Falls to #7 Nova Southeastern

Auburndale, FL- The University of Findlay baseball team played against the #7 Nova Southeastern Sharks on Tuesday Mar 1 down in Auburndale Florida. Findlay would come into the contest struggling with a 5-game losing streak but looking to turn things around.  

Box Score (L 14-2, 7 innings) 

In the top of the first inning the Sharks put up 3 runs scoring on some well-timed hits and a costly error by the Oilers. 

In the top of the second the Sharks scored again when a leadoff single followed by a double down the left field line would score on a single to right field. A deep ground-rule double the next batter would score the third run of the inning. A dropped ball in left field allowed the Sharks to bring home a fourth run making the score 7-0. Another single would allow the Sharks to score a 5th batter of the inning giving them an 8 run lead.  

In the bottom half of the second inning Findlay would put its first run on the board with a deep double to right center by senior Alex Foulks that would bring home junior Cam Farrar (double).  

In the top of the third Nova Southeastern would score off two fielding errors to bring the score to 9-1. 

The sharks would add three more runs to their lead in the bottom of the sixth. A two out double scored the first run of the inning followed by a single up the middle to score the second. A few batters later, a bases loaded walk would score the third run of the inning leaving the score at 12-1 in favor of Nova Southeastern. 

In the 7th inning Nova Southeastern scored on a sacrifice fly to right field that would plate their 13th run of the game. One batter later a single through the left side scored the second run of the inning for the Sharks making the score 14-1.  

Senior Ryan O'Malley and junior Aiden Lao also record hits for the Oilers who would finish with 5 on the game. 

Starting on the mound for Findlay was junior Tyler Trammel. Trammel allow 5 earned runs and recording 2 strikeouts in 1.1 inning of work. Freshmen Jacob Flaherty would throw in relief for the Oilers. Flaherty would complete 1.2 innings on the mound allowing no earned runs and recording 3 strikeouts. Freshmen Ashton Schroeder pitched next throwing 2 innings without letting a batter reach base and striking out two. Junior Sebastian Jones came in to start the 6th inning on the mound. Jones would pitch .2 innings for the Oilers allowing no earned runs and striking out 2 batters. Senior Gavin Bailey would throw the final out of the 6thinning allowing no earned runs. Sophomore Ethan Canterbury was next on the mound for Findlay, he would throw one inning and allow one earned run. 

With the loss, Findlay drops to 1-8 on the season. The Oilers will be back in action on Thursday Mar 3 when they take on Winona State at noon at Lake Myrtle.
