Oilers fall to Winona St. 9-6 | Still Looking for First Florida Win.

Auburndale, FL- The University of Findlay Baseball team played their 6th game of their Florida trip on Thursday Mar 3rd against the Winona State Warriors. Findlay looked to improve a 1-8 record and secure their first win of the trip.

Winona State was able to put a run of the board in the top of the 1st inning when a leadoff hit batter came around to score on a sacrifice fly later in the inning.  

In the top of the third a two-run homerun down the left field line from the Warriors catcher and clean up hitter gave Winona State a 3-0 lead. 

Winona put a fourth run on the board in the top of the 4th inning with a two out RBI double to give them a 4-0 lead. 

In the bottom of the 4th inning the Oilers put their first run on the board when sophomore Andrew Micale (walk) scored on an RBI double to left center by freshmen Caleb McGee. Two batters later, freshmen Austin Adelman would send a ball over the left field fence for a two-run homerun that scored senior Brandon Emery (fielder's choice). This big inning would bring Findlay back to within one run of the Warriors. 

Winona State answered back with a solo homerun of their own in the top of the 5th which pushed them to a two-run lead. 

The warriors would put up two more runs in the top of the 6th inning to make it 7-3 in favor of Winona State. 

In the bottom of the 7th inning Findlay would put up another run with a one out RBI single by McGee that would bring frshemn Jabin Bates (walk) around to score. This would put the game at 7-4 Warriors at the end of 7 innings of play. 

In the top of the 8th Winona would score two more runs on a third homerun of the game for the Warriors which made the score 9-4. 

In the bottom of the inning senior Ryan O'Malley would single to the right side allowing junior Aiden Lao (walk) to score the Oilers fifth run of the contest.  

Findlay scored again in the bottom of the 9th with another RBI by Adelman who would score McGee (single). However, that was all the runs the Findlay could produce as they lost 9-6. 

Junior Cam Farrar, freshmen Tanner Herrera, and junior Kyron Rogers also recorded hit for Findlay who finished with 11 on the game. 

On the mound, Findlay junior Grant Meyers started the game and threw 2.2 innings allowing 3 earned runs and recording 3 strikeouts. Freshmen Ashton Schroeder came into the game after Myers. Schroeder would complete 2.1 innings on the mound allowing 2 earned runs and striking out one batter. Freshmen Jacob Flaherty pitched next throwing 2 innings and allowing one earned run and striking out one batter. Junior Spencer Giesige would come out in relief next striking one batter and allowing no runs in .1 innings. Senior Ben Calisto finished the game on the mound for the Oilers allowing no runs in .2 innings. 

With the loss Findlay drops to 1-9 on the year and looks to pick up its first win on their Florida trip. 

Findlay will be back in action on Mar 4 in Lake Myrtle in a double header against Minnesota State Mankato starting at 12pm.
