Oilers Sweep Double Header with West Virginia Wesleyan | Head Back North on a Solid Finish

Auburndale, FL- The university of Findlay's Baseball team played their final two games of their spring break trip on Saturday Mar 5th. Findlay finished the trip off with a double header against the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats, both games were scheduled for 7 innings.  

Game one- (W 11-3) 

The Bobcats started the scoring off in the top of the first innings with a single to right field that would bring 2 runners around to score.  

Findlay would have themselves an inning as well scoring 4 runs on two hits. Freshmen Jabin Bates (walk) would be the first Oiler to score on an RBI single from sophomore Andrew Micale.  

Both junior Cam Farrar and senior Ryan O'Malley would score when the next batter, freshmen Austin Adelman, reached on an error by the Bobcats. Micale would score the final run of the inning for the Oilers on a Sacrifice fly by senior Christion Orr to give Findlay a 4-2 lead after the first inning. 

Findlay added some more runs in the second inning as well. Junior Aiden Lao (single) would come around to score on a bases loaded single from Farrar. The very next batter, Micale, would single up the middle to bring home Bates. O'Malley would score shortly after on a wild pitch to bring the score to 7-2.  Adelman would score Farrar with a single to third base to plate the fourth run of the inning for Findlay. 

The Warriors would put one more run up on the board in the 5th inning with an RBI double to bring the score to 8-3. Orr would score on and RBI triple from senior Brandon Emery followed by Emery scoring off a steal from Lao. Later Lao would score on a wild pitch to help give the Oilers a 11-3 win. 

Findlay would finish with 10 hits in the game and left 6 runners on base. 

Findlay would put together another big inning in the 5th scoring 3 more runs.  

Senior Jordan Bekier started on the mound for Findlay. Bekier would pick up the win throwing 6 solid innings allowing only 3 runs on 10 hits. Bekier also struck out 8 batters. Senior Trey Bame would come in to close the game for Findlay. 

Game Two- (W 4-2) 

West Virginia Wesleyan started the second game off right off the bat scoring one run in the bottom of the first inning.  

Findlay would respond right away with a run of their own in the top of the 2nd when Emery scored Micale on a ground ball to second base to tie the game. The score would stay here for the next couple innings.  

Findlay broke open the tie game in the 5th inning when Bates hit and RBI single to center field that brought Lao around to score. Later in the inning a single to left field by Farrar allowed Bates to score and give Findlay a 3-1 lead. Andre Micale would drive home O'Malley with an RBI single to center to help push the Oilers further in the lead.  

A leadoff single in the top of the 6th inning would come around to score for the Bobcats brining the score to 4-2. 

Senior Ryan Mohr got the start for the Oilers in game two. Mohr would throw 5 innings for Findlay allowing only two earned runs while striking out four Bobcat hitters. Senior Ben Calisto would come into the game in relief for Mohr and would walk two batters before coming out of the game. Freshmen Ashton Schroeder would come in to pitch next for the Oilers throwing 2 innings and recording 3 strikeouts.  

With these wins Findlay moves to 4-10 on the season as they head back up north. The Oilers will play Wayne State at home at The Cube on Tuesday Mar 8 at 3 PM.
