Oilers Drop Final Two Games of Series | Sit at 2-2 in G-MAC Play

Findlay, OH- The University of Findlay baseball team played the final two games of their series against the Hillsdale College Chargers on Mar 14 at Fifth Third Field in Findlay. After winning games one and two the day prior, Findlay looked to sweep and start G-MAC play 4-0. 

Game One 7 Inning- (L 11-3) 

Hillsdale started the game off big with grand slam in the top of the first inning to give the Chargers an early 4-0 lead.  

Findlay would battle back in the bottom of the third when junior Cam Farrar hit a three-run home to bring home freshmen Jabin Bates and senior Ryan O'Malley who both reached on walks. 

The Chargers would respond with another homerun, this one a two-run homerun to put them up by 3 runs.  

A pair of bases loaded walks would allow the Chargers to plate their 7th and 8th run of the game. A two out bases loading double would plate another 3 runs for Hillsdale giving them a 11-3 lead heading into the bottom half of the 7th inning. 

Senior Jordan Bekier started on the mound for the Oilers. Bekier would throw 4.1 innings for the Oilers and allowed 6 earned runs while striking out 5 batters and picking up the loss. Freshmen Jacob Flaherty would come in the game in relief. He would throw 2 innings allowing 2 earned runs and strike out one batter. Junior Ethan Canterbury would finish the game on the mound allowing no runs and striking out one batter while recording the final two outs.  

With the loss the Oilers would fall to 6-11 on the season and 2-1 in G-MAC play. 

Game Two 9 inning- (L 14-6)  

Hillsdale would keep the pressure on with a two-run homerun in the top of the first to give them an early 2-0 lead.  

A two out RBI single in the bottom of the second inning gave Hillsdale their third run of the game. A bases loaded walk brought home the second run of the inning for the Chargers giving them a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the 2nd inning. 

Findlay would battle back in the bottom of the third inning with a bases loaded double by Bates that would bring junior Kyron Rogers (walk) and Senior Christian Orr (reached on error) to bring the score to back within 2 runs. Farrar would bring in the third run of the inning, Lao (walk), with and RBI groundout. Freshmen Caleb McGee would hit a huge 2 out homerun that scored Bates (double) to give Findlay a 5-4 lead after 3 innings of play. 

Hillsdale would answer with a pair of two out RBI singles to give Hillsdale a 6-5 lead.  

Farrar would score Lao (single) on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 5th inning to bring the score to even. 

A big top half of the 6th for Hillsdale filled with hits and walks would plate 6 runs to give the Chargers a 12-6 lead. 

Hillsdale would keep things rolling in the 7th inning with a solo homerun followed by another run scoring on an RBI double to bring the score to 14-6 in favor of Hillsdale. 

Senior Ryan Mohr would start on the mound for the Oilers. Mohr would complete 3.2 innings on the mound allowing 6 earned runs while striking out 5 batters. Junior Sebastian Jones would come in to pitch next for Findlay and throw 1.1 innings allowing 1 run and striking out 1 batter while picking up the loss. Senior Ben Calisto was next on the mound throwing .1 innings and allowing 2 runs. Junior Spencer Giesige pitched next allowing 2 earned runs. Senior Gavin Bailey came out of the bullpen next for Findlay. Bailey would throw 2.2 innings allowing 2 earned runs and striking out 5 batters. Senior Trey Bame would finish the game off on the mound allowing no earned runs in 1 inning of work striking out one batter. 

With the loss the Oilers fall to 6-12 on the season and 2-2 in G-MAC play.

Findlay will be back in action at home on Mar 15 when they take on the Saginaw Valley University Cardinals starting at 3 PM.
