Findlay Drops to 6-13 After Loss to Saginaw Valley State

Findlay, OH- The University of Findlay baseball team played a non-conference game at home on Tuesday Mar 15th against the Saginaw Valley State University Cardinals. Findlay would come into the game sporting a 6-12 overall record and playing their 5th game in a 3-day span.  

Final- (L 13-9) 

The Cardinals scored first in the contest with a pair of RBI singles in the top of the first inning to bring around 2 runs.  

An inside the park homerun to right center in the top of the second allowed the Cardinals to extend their lead to 3 runs.  

Findlay would bring their first run across the plate in the bottom of the 2nd inning when freshmen Tanner Herrera hit an RBI single to bring senior Alex Folks (single) around to score from second. 

The Cardinals would respond with 4 runs on 3 hits in the top of the third inning to give them a 6-run lead. 

Back-to-back triple from senior Ryan O'Malley followed by junior Cam Farrar would plate another run for the Oilers. The next batter, senior Alex Folks would bring Farrar home with a sac fly to right field that brought the score to 7-3 in favor of the Cardinals. 

In the bottom of the 4th inning an error on a pickoff attempt to first base by the pitcher allowed senior Christian Orr to score from third leaving the score at 7-4 after 4 innings of play. 

In the top of the 6th inning the Cardinals brought two runs home with a one out 2 RBI single to advance their lead to 5 runs. The next batter would lace a triple off the wall to plate the 3rd run on the inning for Saginaw Valley followed by an RBI double to left center to put the score at 11-4. 

Farrar would get his second RBI of the game in the 6th inning with a single to left field that would bring Herrera (walk) around to score.  

Saginaw would plate two more runs in the top of the 7th inning to bring the score to 13-5 heading into the 7thinning stretch. 

An RBI single from Bates would bring home sophomore Andrew Micale (single) for the first run of the inning. One batter later O'Malley would single to left field to bring home Herrera (walk) for the second run of the inning. The third run of the inning for the Oilers would come on another RBI single from Farrar that would bring Bates around to bring the score to 13-8. 

A RBI ground out in the bottom of the 9th by Bates brought freshmen Alex Givens around to score to make the score 13-9 where it would stay for the rest of the game. 

Starting on the mound for Findlay was Sophomore Logan Bragg. Bragg would complete 4 innings on the mound allowing 6 earned runs while striking out 3 batters and picking up the loss. Senior Trey Bame would throw one inning for Findlay allowing no earned runs and striking out one batter. Freshmen Zavier Thornton came out of the bullpen next throwing .2 innings and allowing 5 earned runs. Sophomore Ethan Canterbury entered the game next on the mound and pitched 2.1 innings allowing one earned run and striking out 2 batters. Freshmen Ashton Schroeder would throw the last inning for the Oilers and would not allow a run to score.  

The Oilers will be back on the diamond on Saturday Mar 19th when they head to Malone for their second conference series, first game starting at 3 PM.
