Oilers Split on Second Day of Series

Tiffin, OH- The University of Findlay baseball team traveled to Tiffin, OH to play their final two games against Lake Erie at Heidelberg University due to the weather. Findlay would look to advance to 9-3 in G-MAC (Great Midwest Athletic Conference) play and 13-15 on the season. 

Findlay would pick up right where they left off on Sunday, scoring 3 runs in the first inning. Junior Aiden Lao would start things off with a leadoff homerun to start the game. Three batters later, junior Cam Farrar would bring in freshmen Jabin bates with an RBI double. Farrar would later score on a sacrifice play to left field by junior Nate brooks.  

Farrar would score again in the 4th inning on a pass ball to give Findlay a 4-0 lead. 

Findlay would strike big in the 5th inning with 6 runs. The first run of the inning came off and RBI single from Farrar that scored Bates. Brooks would follow that up with an RBI single of his own that would score senior Ryan O'Malley. Both Brooks and Farrar would later score on a single up the middle off the bat of sophomore Derek Fay. Freshmen Austin Adelman would bring the 5th run of the inning home with a sacrifice fly to center field that would allow sophomore Andrew Micale to cross the plate. To round off the inning, Fay would score on a pass ball to give the Oilers a 10-1 lead.  

Farrar could not be slowed down as he recorded his 3rd RBI of the game in the top of the 6th with yet another RBI single to score Bates... And that was just the start of the inning. Farrar would score on a pass ball the next batter. Micale would score on a HBP by freshmen Tanner Herrera. The next batter, freshmen Alex Givens, would hit a double to bring in both Adelman and senior Brandon Emery. Senior Christian Orr would reach first base on a fielding error that allowed Herrera to score. Givens would score on a pass ball during the next batter. And finally, to finish the inning, another RBI hit by Farrar that scored Orr and freshmen Caleb McGee. Findlay would go into the bottom of the 6th with a staggering 10 run lead. 

The Oilers would finish the game with a staggering 16 hits and drawing 5 walks.  

Senior Jordan Bekier would start on the mound for the Oilers. Bekier would throw 5 innings allowing only 2 hitters to reach base and striking out 2 batters while picking up the win, giving him a 4-1 record on the year. Freshmen Zavier Thornton would throw the 6th inning for Findlay and allow no earned runs and only allow one hit. Junior Ethan Canterbury would throw the 7th inning and not allow a run to cross the plate.  

Findlay started the game just like the previous three by scoring in the first inning. Brooks would bring in two runs with a double deep in the gap that plated Farrar and O'Malley.  

Lake Erie would respond with a run of their own in the bottom of the 1st to bring the score back to 2-1. 

Findlay would strike again in the 3rd with an RBI groundout by Bates that plated Lao followed by an RBI single by Brooks that would score Farrar.  

Lake Erie would have a big 3rd inning scoring 4 runs on just 2 hits to make the score 5-4 in favor of the Storm. 

A base loaded walk in the 4th inning by Farrar would bring Lao home to bring the game back to even.  

Findlay would take back the lead in the 5th with an RBI single by senior Alex Foulks that scored Micale. 

A homerun in the bottom of the 5th by the Storm would tie the game up yet again a 6 runs apiece. 

The Storm would retake the lead in the bottom of the 7th inning with a 1 out RBI groundout that would end up being the winning run.  

Senior Ryan Mohr started on the mound for Findlay and would pitch 3 innings allowing 4 earned runs while striking out one batter. Senior Gavin Bailey would pitch next throwing 3.2 innings allowing 2 earned runs and striking out six batters while picking up the loss. Freshmen Ashton Schroeder finished the game on the mound throwing 1.1 innings allowing no runs.  

Findlay will be back in action for a G-MAC home series against the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans at The Cube starting on Friday Apr 1 at 1 PM
