Oilers Split on Day One with #7 Trojans

Findlay, OH- The University of Findlay baseball team was back at the Cube this weekend for a four-game series against #7 Trevecca Nazarene. The Oilers came into day one with a 12-16 record and sat in third in the G-MAC (Great Midwest Athletic Conference) with an 8-4 conference record.  

The Trojans broke the game open in the top of the first inning with a two-run triple to give them a 2-0 lead. 

The game would be quiet until Trevecca put up two more runs in the top of the 7th inning giving them a 4-0 lead. 

The Trojans would follow that up with another two runs in the top of the 8th inning. 

A 9-run 9th inning gave the Trojans a 14-run lead where it would stay. 

Senior Anthony Kyle started on the mound for the Oilers. Kyle would throw 6.1 innings on the mound allowing 4 earned runs while striking out 10 Trojan batters. Senior Gavin Bailey would finish the 7th inning on the mound striking out both batters. Freshmen Zavier Thornton would come in to pitch next throwing 1 inning allowing two earned runs and striking out two batters. Junior Ethan Canterbury allowed 3 earned runs on the mound pitching after Thornton. Junior Grant Meyer threw the last inning for Findlay allowing 6 earned runs and striking out one batter. 

Game two was a pitcher's duel as Bailey McCord and Caleb Marks threw great games for both teams. No runners scored in the first 6 and a half innings, until sophomore Andrew Micale was able to rip a two out RBI single to left field to score freshmen Jabin Bates and give Findlay the win.  

Senior Bailey McCord threw all 7 innings on the mound allowing no earned runs and only two hits while striking out 8 batters.  

With the split the Oilers advance to 13-17 on the season and 9-5 in the G-MAC. The Oilers and Trojans will finish their series tomorrow, Apr 3, at the Cube starting at 1 PM.
