Oilers Split with Walsh on Senior Night

Findlay, OH- The University of Findlay Baseball team started their last home series of the season against Walsh University on Saturday Apr 23. Findlay would look to improve their 10-8 conference record in the G-MAC (Great Midwest Athletic Conference) to help them secure a spot in the conference tournament. Prior to the game the Oiers recognized the senior class with senior day ceremonies.  

Walsh started the game off with one run in the top of the 1st inning with an RBI single up the middle. 

Senior Ryan O'Malley would tie the game up with a solo homerun to left center in the bottom of the 1st. This gives O'Malley 8 homeruns on the season and leaves him just one shy of the career record at the University of Findlay. 

Freshmen Jabin Bates got in on the action with a homerun of his own in the bottom of the 5th inning to give the Oilers a 2-1 lead.  

Walsh would put up 3 runs in both the 7th and 9th inning off a homerun and some timely walks and hits to give them the 7-2 win. 

Senior Anthony Kyle started on the mound for the Oilers and would throw 7 innings allowing one earned run while striking out 13 batters. Senior Gavin Bailey would throw the 8th inning, allowing 2 earned runs and striking out two Walsh hitters. Junior Sebastain Jones would come in to start the 9th inning, allowing one earned run in .1 innings. Senior Evan Brock would finish the game on the mound allowing no runs and striking out one batter. 

The beginning of game two was quiet until Walsh broke open the 0-0 tie in the top of the 5th inning with an RBI hit by pitch to give them a 1-0 lead. 

The Oilers responded with a huge bottom half of the inning. O'Malley started it off with an RBI double down the left field line to score freshmen Austin Adelman. Junior Cam Farrar followed with a double of his own to bring O'Malley around to score. Junior Nate Brooks would score Farrar with an RBI single later in the inning. Brooks would come around to score the 4th and final run of the inning for Findlay on an RBI double by junior Nolan O'Connell/ 

Walsh would put up another run in the bottom of the 6th on a solo homerun to bring the score to 4-2 where it would stay for the rest of the game. 

Senior Bailey McCord started game two on the mound for Findlay and threw 4.1 innings allowing 1 earned run while striking out 4 batters. Freshmen Ashton Schroeder would come in to relieve McCord and throw 2.2 innings allowing only one earned run and striking out 4 Walsh batters. 

With the split, Findlay advances to 15-23 on the season and 11-9 in the G-MAC. They will be back on the diamond to finish the 4-game series with Walsh on Sunday Apr 24.
