Oilers Top Regional #1 Northwood

Midland, MI- The University of Finley baseball team traveled to Midland Michigan for a non-conference match up with the Northwood Timberwolves. The Oilers looked to improve on a 16–24 record and get a regional win. 

The Oilers started the game off with an RBI ground out in the top of the first inning by freshman Jabin Bates that scored junior Aiden Lao. 

In the top of the second inning sophomore Andrew Micale would plate Junior Nolan O'Connell with an RBI single to leftfield to give Findlay an early 2–0 lead. 

Findlay would add to their lead in the top of the fifth with a solo home run from the school's home run king himself, senior Ryan O'Malley. This homerun would also tie the school single season homerun record that O'Malley set back in 2021. 

Northwood would tack on two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to bring the score to 3–2 in favor of the Oilers. 

The Timberwolves would tie the game in the bottom of the eighth inning off an error by the Oilers. 

Lao would give the Oilers the lead in the top of the ninth inning with an RBI single that brought Micale around to score. Later in the inning the Oilers would take a two-run lead off an RBI single to left field by Bates to bring Lao around to score. 

The Oilers pitching would shut the door in the bottom of the ninth to give Findlay a 5–3 win over the number one team in the region. 

Freshman Jacob Flarity would start on the mound for the Oilers throwing three innings allowing no earned runs and striking out one batter. Sophomore Logan Bragg would come in to throw the next three innings allowing no earned runs. Junior Spencer Giesige would throw the next .2 innings allowing two earned runs and striking out one batter. Senior Ben Calisto would finish the seventh inning on the mound for the Oilers. Junior Sebastian Jones would throw the eighth inning Allowing no earned runs and striking out one batter while picking up the win, his first of the season. Freshman Ashton Schroeder would come in for the save in the bottom of the ninth. 

The Oilers will be back in action on Saturday Apr 27 when they head to Ashland Ohio to take on the Ashland University Eagles in their second to last conference series of the year.
