Findlay Sweeps Doubleheader at Cedarville | Regular Season Concludes Tomorrow
Cedarville, Ohio – The University of Findlay baseball team stayed hot on Friday, May 5 as they earned a doubleheader sweep over the Cedarville Yellow Jackets on the road. The Oilers won the opener 13-3 before taking a 4-0 victory to close out the day. With those victories, Findlay now sits at 27-20 on the year with an 18-12 record in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play. Their 27 wins are one shy of the school record of 28 which was set back in 2008. Cedarville falls to 12-36 with the losses including a 6-24 record in conference play.
Findlay opened the day with three runs on four hits in the first inning and scored another in the second, that on a double to left center by senior Cam Farrar.
The Yellow Jackets battled back to make it 4-3 through three, but the Oilers then poured it on, scoring nine unanswered runs to come away with a ten-run victory.
In the opener, senior Cole Kwiatkowski picked up three hits and scored four runs to lead the offense. Senior Trey Bame had three RBI while freshman Casey Maruniak had a triple, two RBI, and a run scored.
Senior Anthony Kyle, throwing in the last regular season game of his career, picked up his sixth win. He threw five innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits. He struck out six and walked one. Junior Logan Bragg entered the game in the sixth and threw four innings, not allowing a run, to pick up the save.
Game 2 featured more pitching than the opener, but it was the Oilers taking an early lead again to seize control of the contest.
Senior Aiden Lao led off with a double and ultimately scored on a sacrifice fly by Farrar. Maruniak doubled and stole third, later scoring on a single by Bame. Three consecutive walks then pushed the final run home, givine the Oilers a 3-0 lead.
Another Maruniak triple in the second sent a run home, making the score 4-0.
Senior Starter Bailey McCord, the current G-MAC South Division Pitcher of the Week, was electric, throwing five innings and holding the Yellow Jackets to no runs on three hits. He walked two and struck out four.
Maruniak led Findlay's offense on the day as he collected five hits including a double and three triples. He had three RBI and two runs scored.
Kwiatkowski and Lao each had four hits on the day. Kwiatkowski scored five times while Lao scored twice.
Findlay wraps up their regular season with another doubleheader tomorrow, May 6 against Cedarville.
