Oilers Complete Sweep of Cedarville | Set Program Record for Wins
Cedarville, Ohio – The University of Findlay set a new program record on Saturday, May 6 with their 28th and 29th wins on the season, breaking the old record of 28 which was set in 2008. The Oilers 9-3 in the opener and clinched the nightcap by a score of 8-2, improving to 29-20 on the season with a 20-12 record in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play, also the most conference wins in a single-season in program history. Cedarville ends their season with a record of 12-38 and a 6-26 record in the G-MAC.
Senior Christian Orr got the scoring started in the second inning when he pulled a double down the left field line, scoring senior Trey Bame who walked.
Cedarville tied it in the third, but an RBI double by senior Kyron Rogers, RBI groundout by Orr, and RBI single by senior Aiden Lao, all in the fourth inning, gave the Oilers a 4-1 lead.
Cedarville pulled to within one at 4-3 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, but two runs in the sixth and three more in the ninth put the game out of reach for the Yellow Jackets, giving Findlay their record-tying 28th win of the year.
Freshman Blaine Wynk earned the win on the hill to improve to 5-3 on the year. He threw four innings and allowed three runs on eight hits. He walked one and struck out five. Senior Sebastian Jones got his second save of the season, as well.
In the regular-season finale, a three-run double in the third by senior Cam Farrar put the Oilers on top and they never looked back.
Freshman Keelan Daniel had a two RBI single in the sixth and senior Cole Kwiatkowski, who is riding a six-game hit streak, singled in a run in the same frame to make the score 6-0.
Leading 6-2 in the eighth, Lao doubled to plate another run. In the ninth, a stolen base by Rogers led to an error, allowing senior Nate Brooks to score, bringing the score to 8-2.
On the hill, freshman Ethan Mohr dominated to pick up his second win, throwing six innings and giving up two runs, none earned, on just one hit. He struck out four batters. In relief, sophomore Jacob Flaherty threw three strong innings to pick up the save. He did not allow a hit, struck out two, and walked two.
Offensively, Kyron Rogers led the way, picking up four hits in the doubleheader. He had a double, a triple, and RBI, and four runs scored.
Kwiatkowski had three hits and a team-high four RBI on the day. Freshman Casey Maruniak and Farrar also had three hits. Maruniak had one RBI while Farrar posted a double, two RBI, and a run scored.
Lao had two hits, including a double, and three RBI while Christian Orr had a hit, three RBI, and a run scored.
Findlay's season will continue in the G-MAC Tournament next week where the Oilers, who finished second in the South Division, will be the fifth seed. They enter the tournament on an eight-game winning streak, the longest active streak in the conference. The event begins on Wednesday, May 10 at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio.
