Western Equestrian Takes Reserve Championship

The University of Findlay western equestrian team captured reserve national champion honors at the national meet in Springfield, Mass. on May 3. The Oilers finished the event with 19 points. Berry College won with 22.

In the team competition, Marissa Phillips was first in the open western horsemanship while Kirby Wierda was third in the novice western horsemanship. Elizabeth Hayes added a fourth place finish in the opening reining while Katelyn Lundquist was fifth in the beginner western horsemanship. Sarah Shedd earned a fifth place finish in the advanced western horsemanship and Brandon Morin was sixth in the intermediate western horsemanship.

In individual competition, Lindsay Testerman and Shedd captured gold to lead the way. Testerman won the beginner western horsemanship class while Shedd took first in the novice western horsemanship.

Hanna Hedderick earned a second place finish in the advanced western horsemanship while Kristina Schneider took 12th in the same event.

Hayes was third in the open western horsemanship and Josh Clevenger was seventh in the same event. Ashley Winters took fifth in the open reining, Kristin Roessner was eighth in the beginner western horsemanship and Kayla Harris was ninth in the intermediate western horsemanship for the Oilers as well.
