Ernst Named New Head Men's Basketball Coach

Charlie Ernst, an assistant men’s basketball coach at The University of Findlay for the past 20 years, was named the Oilers new head coach on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 as he replaced the recently retired Ron Niekamp. Ernst, who has served as the associate head coach in each of the past five years, becomes the program’s 15th different head coach since 1902 and only the fourth since 1947.
Niekamp Retires After Successful 26-Year Run

Ron Niekamp, the all-time leader in basketball victories at The University of Findlay, announced his retirement as men’s basketball coach on Monday, March 28, 2011 after 26 seasons at the helm of the Oilers program. Coach Niekamp will remain at UF however and serve as a full-time faculty member next fall in the department of Health and Human Performance.
Hyde Named All-American

Senior guard Nathan Hyde of The University of Findlay men’s basketball team was selected as a 2011 State Farm NCAA Division II All-American by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) on Monday, March 21. Hyde becomes the fourth Oilers player to receive the honor, joining two-time selection and 2009 NCAA Division II Player of the Year, Josh Bostic as well as Frank Phillips (2007) and Dustin Pfeifer (2006).
Hyde To Play In Reese's DII All-Star Game

Senior guard Nathan Hyde of The University of Findlay men’s basketball team will become the third Oilers player to participate in the Reese's Division II College All Star Game, which will be held on Friday, March 25 at 7pm in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Senior guard Nathan Hyde was named First Team All-Midwest Region by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) on Tuesday, March 15. Hyde, who was a First Team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) selection this year, earned first team all-region honors by the organization last year as well.

The University of Findlay men’s basketball team, who has made a trip to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament nine consecutive times, will have their streak of appearances snapped this season as the Oilers failed to secure a top-eight seed in the region. The Oilers, who sport a 24-4 record, had their season conclude with a 73-64 loss to Wayne State University in the semifinals of the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) on Saturday, March 5 in Big Rapids, Michigan.
