#18 Oilers Face Ashland in Semifinals
The 18th-ranked Oilers will face Ashland in the semifinals of the 2017 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament. The contest is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on March 4 in Big Rapids, Mich. after 17th-ranked Ferris State battles Michigan Tech.

Series Information (All Teams)
Ashland: The Oilers hold a 64-30 advantage in the all-time series against Ashland dating back to the 1910-11 campaign when Findlay won 35-10.
The two programs split their regular season series with each team winning on their home floor. The Eagles claimed an 86-65 victory on Jan. 28 in Ashland and the Oilers were victorious by a score of 85-65 on Feb. 18 in Findlay.
In the road loss, the Oilers were only able to connect 37.3 percent (22-of-59) of their shot attempts while the Eagles ended the game with a 58.9 percent (33-of-56) shooting clip. Individually, Taren Sullivan led Findlay with 21 points and eight rebounds. Martyce Kimbrough also reached double figures with ten points to go along with five boards.
In the home win, the Oilers canned 11-of-25 (44%) attempts from three point and held a 41-27 advantage on the boards. Martyce Kimbrough paced the Oilers with 29 points on 10-of-23 shooting. Sullivan had 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists while Elijah Kahlig contributed 15 points, two rebounds and two assists.
Ferris State: The Oilers hold a 20-9 advantage in the all-time series against Ferris State dating back to the 1962-63 campaign when the Bulldogs were victorious by a score of 79-66.
The Oilers came away with an 81-77 overtime win at Ferris State earlier this season on Dec. 4. Taren Sullivan led the way with 27 points. He hit 11-of-17 shooting attempts and also added seven rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.
Martyce Kimbrough had 12 points, four assists and three rebounds while Alex White had 11 points and six boards.
Tyler Stern-Tucker contributed eight points, six rebounds and three blocks while Ricardo Smith had seven points and five assists. Austin Gardner only scored four points, but he had six assists, four steals and three rebounds.
Findlay shot 44.9 percent (31-of-69) from the floor and made 8-of-17 (47.1%) attempts from behind the three point line. They also forced 17 turnovers and came away with seven steals in the win.
Michigan Tech: The Oilers hold a 20-8 advantage in the all-time series against the Huskies dating back to the 1997-98 campaign when Michigan Tech was victorious by an 81-71 margin.
Findlay came away with a 72-70 win in the final seconds at Michigan Tech earlier this season on Dec. 17. The Oilers shot 46.4 percent (26-of-56) from the floor and canned 11-of-27 (40.7%) attempts from long range. They were led by Taren Sullivan, who posted 25 points, nine assists, eight rebounds and a pair of steals. He also made 9-of-14 shot attempts and drained 4-of-5 attempts from three point range.
Elijah Kahlig had a huge game as he tied his career-high with 22 points. Kahlig made 7-of-13 attempts from the field and splashed a career-high 6-of-11 tries from three point land in the victory.
Tyler Stern-Tucker was huge off the bench with 12 points and three rebounds while Katwan Singleton had four points, four rebounds, two assists and one block.
Findlay
The Oilers are 23-5 on the season and ranked 18th in the nation. Junior guard Martyce Kimbrough and junior forward Taren Sullivan have been carrying the scoring load for Findlay this season and are both ranked in the top-ten of the GLIAC in points per game average.
Kimbrough is averaging 20.3 points per contest, the fourth-best mark in the league, while Sullivan ranks sixth with 17.7 points per game. The duo has spearheaded one of the top offensive attacks in the league as the Oilers rank third in scoring at 84.5 points per game.
Ashland
The Eagles are 18-9 on the season and are coming off of an 84-81 win at Lake Superior State in the opening round of the GLIAC Tournament.
The Eagles are averaging 75.8 points per game and have made 40.6 percent of their three point tries this year. Adrian Cook leads the team and is averaging 14.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.
Boo Osborne is averaging 12.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per contest while Ben Haraway is scoring 10.2 points per game. He is also averaging 3.2 assists and 3.0 rebounds per outing.
Marsalis Hamilton is also having a good season and sports averages of 9.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
Ferris State
The Bulldogs are ranked 17th in the nation and sport a record of 25-4 on the year. They are coming off of an 87-84 win over Hillsdale in the first round of the GLIAC Tournament.
The Bulldogs are scoring 88.0 points per game and are led by Zach Hankins, who was named the 2017 GLIAC Player of the Year. Hankins is averaging 14.8 points, 10.2 rebounds and 4.1 blocks per game while shooting 65.2 percent from the floor.
Quentin Ruff is contributing 13.9 points per outing while Drew Cushingberry and Peter Firlik are scoring 11.6 and 11.2 points per game, respectively.
Markese Mayfield (9.2) and Mory Diane (8.2) are also key contributors.
Michigan Tech
The Huskies are 16-13 on the season and are are coming off of a 92-84 win against Wayne State in the opening round of the GLIAC Tournament.
Kyle Monroe leads the team and is averaging 20.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Tommy Lucca, who was named the 2017 GLIAC Freshman of the Year, is posting 16.2 points, 4.5 assists and 3.9 rebounds per outing.
Jordan Chartier is contributing 13.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game while Bryan Heath is averaging 12.9 points and 3.2 rebounds per coontest.
The Huskies are averaging 75.3 points per game and shooting 39.7 percent from long range.
All-Conference Picks
Junior guard Martyce Kimbrough and junior forward Taren Sullivan were each named first team all-GLIAC for their performances during the 2016-17 campaign.
Kimbrough has averaged 20.3 points per game for Findlay this season while Sullivan has stuffed the stat sheet to the tune of 17.7 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.5 steals per contest. Kimbrough was also a first team all-league pick last year as a sophomore while Sullivan earned second team all-conference accolades last year for Findlay.
In addition, senior guard Ricardo Smith was voted to the all-defensive team. Smith is averaging 5.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. He also ranks second on the team with 20 blocks.
Chasing Records
The Oilers have made 284-of-705 three point attempts this season. The school record for most made three pointers in a season is 285, which was set during the 1995-96 campaign. That team also set a school record for most three point shots attempted with 751.
Earlier this season, the Oilers tied a school record with 19 triples in their 105-87 win over Tiffin on Feb. 16. Findlay also hit 19 three pointers in a 108-63 win over Glenville State on Nov. 17, 1995.
1,000-Point Club
Junior guard Martyce Kimbrough became the Oilers 45th member of the 1,000-point club on Feb. 23, 2017 at Walsh. Kimbrough hit a three pointer at the buzzer to win the game and eclipse the 1,000 point mark. He currently ranks 44th all-time at UF with 1,017 points in only 56 career games. He is chasing Gary Merrill for 43rd place on the all-time list. Merrill recorded 1,022 points for Findlay from 1965-68.
Junior forward Taren Sullivan is looking to become the 46th member of the Oilers 1,000-point club as he has scored 976 points during his tenure at Findlay.
Putting Points on the Board
Junior guard Martyce Kimbrough has scored 568 points for Findlay this season. His point total is the 12th-highest single-season total in school history.
In addition, junior forward Taren Sullivan has scored 495 points this season, the 24th-best total in school history.
An Elite Program
The Oilers have one of the best winning percentages in NCAA Division II competition since the year 2000, having won 414 games and lost only 103 for an overall winning percentage of .798. During that timeframe, the Oilers reached the Elite 8 in 2005, appeared in the Sweet 16 in 2008 and won the NCAA Division II National Championship in 2009 with a perfect 36-0 record.
GLIAC Tournament Success
The Oilers sport a 32-8 record in the GLIAC Tournament, winning titles in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014. Findlay has appeared in the championship game of the event ten times in the past 13 years. They reached the finals in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
The Oilers have captured eight GLIAC Tournament titles, the most in league history. Their win in the 2013 tournament gave them two in a row away from the friendly confines of Croy Gymnasium, the first time a school had ever won back-to-back championships on the road in the history of the GLIAC Tournament. Their victory in 2014 then marked the first time a GLIAC school had won three straight tournament championships.
Findlay has reached the championship game of the GLIAC Tournament ten times during their existence in the league and sport an 8-2 record in those games.
