Chargers Top 12th-Ranked Oilers

The 12th-ranked University of Findlay men's basketball team fell 93-82 against Hillsdale College on Jan. 19 in the Croy Physical Education Center. The loss gives the Oilers a 14-3 record on the season with an 8-2 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC).

The Chargers had a hot hand in the first half as they ended the period with a 48-39 lead. In the opening half, Hillsdale made 58.1 percent (18-of-31) of their field goal attempts and connected on 6-of-7 (85.7%) tries from behind the three point line.

Findlay made a few runs in the second half to climb within striking distance, but Hillsdale answered with timely buckets on the other end to give the Oilers their first home loss of the year.

The Chargers ended the game by hitting 53.2 percent (33-of-62) of their shot attempts, which included a 9-of-14 (64.3%) showing from three point range. They also outrebounded the Oilers 35-27 and connected on 18-of-19 (94.7%) attempts from the charity stripe.

The Oilers shot 55.2 percent (32-of-58) from the floor and drilled 7-of-15 (46.7%) tries from behind the three point line. They only made 11-of-20 (55.0%) attempts from the free throw line however.

Junior forward Aaron Overhiser paced the team with a career-high 25 points on 9-of-13 shooting. He also added ten rebounds for his fourth double-double of the year.

Senior guard Trey Smith had 16 points while senior forward Alex White had 14 points and four blocks.

The Chargers were led by Davis Larson and Harrison Niego who had 24 and 22 points, respectively.

The Oilers will be back in action again on Jan. 24 when they travel to Nashville, Tenn. for an 8:45 p.m. contest at Trevecca Nazarene University.
