Oilers Defeat Trojans 80-73

The University of Findlay men's basketball team began their 2020-21 season with an 80-73 win over Trevecca Nazarene University on Dec. 3 in Niekamp Arena.

The Oilers only shot 41.5 percent (27-of-65) from the floor, which included a 7-of-31 (22.6%) showing from three point range, but converted 19-of-23 (82.6%) tries from the free throw line in the win. The Trojans meanwhile made 48.2 percent (27-of-56) of their field goal attempts and 47.8 percent (11-of-23) of their three point tries. They made all of their free throw attempts in the game as well, but only went to the line eight times.

Senior guard Tommy Schmock led the way with 17 points while sophomore guard Joey Edmonds came off the bench to tie his career-high with 14 points. Edmonds also added five rebounds, five assists, and a pair of steals in the victory.

Senior forward Anthony Masterlasco had 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting while junior guard Ethan Linder rounded out the Oilers in double figures with ten points to go along with seven rebounds.

Junior forward Deven Stover nearly reached double figures with eight points and six rebounds while senior guard Tre'Maine Gray had seven points.

Chris Rogers led the Trojans with 23 points.

The Oilers will be back in action again on Dec. 11 when they host Tiffin University at 3:00 p.m.
