#6 Oilers Win Late 80-77 Over Malone

The 6th-ranked University of Findlay men's basketball team won another tight game in Niekamp Arena as they defeated Malone University by a score of 80-77 on Jan. 8. The victory pushes the Oilers record to 6-0 on the year with a 5-0 mark in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play.

The Oilers trailed for the majority of the game and found themselves tied at 77-77 with only 12 seconds to play. Junior guard Ethan Linder then drilled a three pointer off of an assist from Tommy Schmock to give the Oilers an 80-77 advantage. Findlay then got a stop on defense to seal the game and remain undefeated on the season.

The Oilers shot 49.2 percent (29-of-59) from the floor while the Pioneers converted 58.2 percent (32-of-55) of their shot attempts. The Oilers did however made all 15 of their free throw attempts and forced 18 turnovers in the game.

Junior guard Tre'Maine Gray paced the team with a career-high 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting while senior forward Anthony Masterlasco scored 15.

Freshman forward Andrew Owens came off the bench to provide a career-high 13 points while Schmock reached double figures with 12 to go along with eight assists and three steals. His three steals gives him 202 for his career as he becomes the fifth Oilers player to achieve 200 steals in a Findlay uniform.

Linder meanwhile added eight points while sophomore forward Nathan Bruns had seven.

Marcus Ernst led the Pioneers with 29 points.

The Oilers will be back in action again on Jan. 10 when they travel to Canton, Ohio to take on Walsh University at 4pm.
