#6 Oilers Suffer 1st Loss of the Year at Walsh

The 6th-ranked University of Findlay men's basketball team suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of Walsh University who defeated the Oilers 86-60 on Jan. 10 in Canton, Ohio. The loss gives the Oilers a 6-1 record on the year with a 5-1 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC).

The Cavaliers put the game out of reach in the first half when they closed the period on a 37-8 run to take a 44-18 lead at the break. The Oilers mounted a bit of a comeback in the beginning of the second half, but the first half deficit was too much for them to overcome.

The Oilers shot 42.9 percent (24-of-56) from the floor and made only 6-of-27 (22.2%) attempts from behind the three point line in the loss. The Cavaliers meanwhile hit on 54.2 percent (32-of-59) of their shot attempts and canned 11-of-25 (44%) three point tries in the game.

Senior forward Anthony Masterlasco led the Oilers with 17 points on 7-of-7 shooting while senior guard Tommy Schmock had 12 points and three assists.

Darryl Straughter led Walsh with 24 points while Christian Simmons came off the bench to provide 18 points and ten rebounds.

The Oilers will be back at it again on Jan. 14 when they head to Tiffin, Ohio to take on Tiffin University at 7:30 p.m.
