#21 Oilers Face Yellow Jackets in Semifinals

The 20th-ranked Oilers will face Cedarville University on Mar. 5 in the semifinals of the 2021 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Tournament. The game is scheduled to start at 7pm in Hillsdale, Mich.

Series Information

The Oilers hold a 78-24 advantage in the all-time series against Cedarville as the two programs have been meeting on the hardwood since 1910. In their first meeting, the Yellow Jackets came away with a 32-30 win over Findlay.

The Oilers split their regular season series with the Yellow Jackets this season as each team scored a road victory. Cedarville defeated Findlay 90-84 in overtime on Feb. 8 in Niekamp Arena and the Oilers beat the Yellow Jackets 65-61 on Feb. 24 in Cedarville.

In the home loss, Cedarville came out hot and shot 75 percent () from the field in the first half as they ran out to a 49-35 advantage. The Oilers then stormed back to force overtime when Anthony Masterlasco drilled a three pointer to tie the game at 78-78 with 22 seconds remaining in regulation. The Oilers went cold in the overtime period however and were saddled with the loss.

Tommy Schmock paced Findlay with 26 points on 9-of-17 shooting. He also added five assists, three rebounds, and a pair of steals.

In the road win, Findlay shot 52.0 percent (26-of-50) from the floor and canned 8-of-16 (50%) attempts from behind the three point line. They held the Yellow Jackets to a 43.1 percent (25-of-58) shooting clip, which included a 6-of-22 (27.3%) showing from three point range.

Nathan Bruns led the way with 19 points, four rebounds, and four steals while Tre'Maine Gray had ten points.

Schmock finished with eight points and six assists while Masterlasco had six points, six rebounds, and four assists.

Findlay

The Oilers are 18-4 on the season. Senior guard Tommy Schmock leads the team with averages of 13.8 points, 5.5 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game.

Sophomore forward Nathan Bruns is averaging 13.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per contest while senior forward Anthony Masterlasco is also averaging in double figures at 11.3 points per outing.

The Yellow Jackets are 11-8 on the season and are led by Branden Maughmer, who is averaging 16.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.

Quinton Green (13.2), Kollin Van Horn (12.1), Conner TenHove (11.1), and Isaiah Speelman (10.2) are all averaging in double figures for the Yellow Jackets as well.
