#20 Oilers Fall to Cedarville in Semifinals

The 20th-ranked University of Findlay men's basketball team fell 76-73 to Cedarville University in the semifinals of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Tournament on March 5 in Hillsdale, Mich. The loss gives the Oilers an 18-5 record on the season.

The Oilers trailed by double digits in the second half before mounting a comeback and trailed 74-73 with a chance to take the lead in the closing seconds. Senior guard Tommy Schmock beat his defender off the dribble and was fouled, but he missed the front end of the one-and-one with only three seconds remaining. Findlay was forced to foul and Cedarville made both free throws to close out the scoring in the game.

The Oilers shot 45.8 percent (27-of-59) from the floor while the Yellow Jackets converted 47.1 percent (24-of-48) of their field goal attempts. Findlay made 11 three pointers, but converted only 8-of-15 (53.3%) of their free throw attempts. In comparison, Cedarville canned eight three pointers and made 20-of-26 (76.9%) attempts from the charity stripe.

Individually, Schmock led the way with 16 points, five rebounds, and five assists while sophomore forward Nathan Bruns had 15 points, six rebounds, and three assists.

Senior guard Tre'Maine Gray recorded 15 points while sophomore guard Joey Edmonds scored 11 points in the first half before departing with an ankle injury.

The Yellow Jackets had five players score in double figures and were led by Quinton Green's 17 poitns.

The Oilers will now wait to see if they qualify for the 2021 NCAA Division II National Tournament, which will be released on Sunday.
