Oilers Lead Slips Late vs Toledo | Rockets Escape Upset in Croy

The University of Findlay men's basketball team nearly knocked off the University of Toledo on Oct. 30 in an exhibition game in Niekamp Arena. The Oilers, who led for the majority of the game, fell 83-78 in a contest that helped raise funds for Mission Possible.

The Oilers jumped out to a 41-34 lead at the break and found themselves up 74-71 with 2:26 to play in the game. The Rockets would then take a 77-76 lead on a pair of free throws with only 47 seconds left, but junior forward Nathan Bruns scored on a put back with only 30 seconds remaining to put Findlay in front 78-77. The Rockets would then go 6-for-6 from the free throw line to close out the game and the Oilers missed both of their three point attempts down the stretch.

The Oilers shot 50 percent (29-of-58) from the floor and converted 14-of-30 attempts from behind the three point line. The Rockets meanwhile made 46 percent (23-of-50) of their shot attempts and made 31-of-34 (91.2%) tries from the free throw line in the game.

Senior guard Tre'Maine Gray paced the Oilers with 20 points on 8-of-18 shooting while senior guard Ethan Linder came off the bench to provide 19 points on 6-of-7 shooting.

Senior forward Anthony Masterlasco and junior guard Joey Edmonds each reached double figures with ten points apiece while Bruns finished with eight.

Ryan Rollins led Toledo with 28 points.

Overall the Oilers and Rockets raised over $1,500 for Mission Possible.

The Oilers will be back in action again on Nov. 12 when they open their regular season at the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC)-Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Crossover in Quincy, Ill.
