Oilers Grind Out 56-54 Win at Ashland

The University of Findlay men's basketball team won a slugfest at Ashland University on Jan. 15 by a score of 56-54. The victory gives the Oilers a 10-5 record on the year with a 4-3 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC).

The Oilers used a 13-0 run in the second half to go up 48-41 with just over eight minutes to play. The Eagles would then grind their way back into the game, tying the contest at 54-54 with 2:04 remaining. The Oilers then hit a pair of free throws down the stretch and played gritty defense to pick up a key road win.

Findlay only shot 35.3 percent (18-of-51) from the floor, but made 14-of-17 (82.4%) attempts from the free throw line in the game. They also forced 15 turnovers and came away with ten steals in the victory.

Junior guard Joey Edmonds led the Oilers with 12 points while senior forward Anthony Masterlasco had ten points and eight rebounds.

Senior forward Brady Wildermuth nearly reached double figures with eight points while senior guard Tre'Maine Gray, junior forward Nathan Bruns, and senior guard Ethan Linder had seven points apiece.

Aaron Thompson led the Eagles with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

The Oilers will be back at home on Jan. 20 to host Kentucky Wesleyan College at 7:30 p.m. in Niekamp Arena.
