Oilers Fall in Double Overtime to Walsh

The University of Findlay men's basketball team fell 92-87 to Walsh University in double overtime on Feb. 15 in Niekamp Arena. The loss gives the Oilers a 15-8 record on the season with a 9-6 record in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play.

The Oilers held a 39-29 advantage at the break, but struggled in the second half as Walsh came back to take a 65-63 lead with 18 seconds to play. Junior forward Nathan Bruns then forced the extra session by hitting a jumper with seven seconds remaining in regulation. The Cavaliers then jumped out to a 76-71 lead in overtime before the Oilers scored five straight points to tie the game and force another period, but Walsh dominated the second overtime to get out of Croy with a victory.

Bruns had a big game for Findlay as he finished with 24 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. He also added four assists while hitting 9-of-14 attempts from the floor.

Senior forward Anthony Masterlasco also reached the 20-point plateau, finishing the game with 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting while senior guard Tre'Maine Gray had 16 points and five boards.

As a team, the Oilers shot 47.1 percent (32-of-68) from the floor while the Cavaliers made 41.9 percent (31-of-74) of their shot attempts. Walsh also made 12 three pointers while Findlay only converted seven.

Individually for Walsh, Garrison Kesslar led all scorers with 35 points.

The Oilers will be back in action again on Thursday when they host Lake Erie College at 7:30 p.m.
