Kelly Fires Ten Birdies | Oilers Lead Through 36 at Doc Spragg

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay men's golf team played host to arguably the top fall tournament in the Midwest Region, the Doc Spragg Fall Invitational. The event, which consists of nine of the top ten teams in the region from a season ago, began on Monday, Sep. 23 with 36 holes and will conclude tomorrow, Tuesday, Sep. 24 with a single 18-hole round. After the first day, the Oilers hold the top spot on the leaderboard with a 36-hole score of 574 (-2) that included rounds of 288 (E) and 286 (-2). Wayne State, which held the lead through 18 holes after a 281 (-7), is currently in second with a 578 (+2).

Senior Luke Kelly was the best on the course for Findlay on Monday, posting a 36-hole score of 140 (-4). He opened the day with an even-par 72 and, despite being one over through five holes in round two, battled to four-under 68 to round out the day. Kelly, in second place on the leaderboard, leads the field with ten birdies.

Tied for third in the tournament is sophomore Caleb Westfall who used a pair of 71s (-1) to shoot a 142 (-2). Westfall would bogey his first hole of the day, but an eagle and a birdie on holes four and seven, respectively, would get his day back on track.

Junior Parker Haynes and senior Sam Griffith are next on the board, both tied for 21st on the leaderboard after rounds of 148 (+4). Haynes began his day with an even-par 72 that included three birdies while Griffith shot a 73 (+1) that included birdies in three of his final five holes.

Rounding out the Oilers' lineup was sophomore Hunter Foltz who began the day with a 78 (+6) and rallied to shoot an even-par 72 in the nightcap to remain at six-over for the tournament. Foltz is currently tied for 34th.

The Oilers' B squad revealed some of the depth on this year's team as they currently sit in tenth in the team standings after a 36-hole score of 600 (+24), just one shot behind Grand Valley State which is the only team in the field in the latest NCAA Top-25 poll.

Sophomore Tanner Grzegorczyk shot even par (144) and is tied for 11th while senior Peyton Cooper is tied for 39th with a score of 151 (+7). Freshman Jack Soper had a solid day, firing a 152 (+8) and is currently in a tied for 46th while freshman Connor Ohlrich and senior Drew Prater are each tied for 65th with scores of 155 (+11).

Findlay's C team, in 18th in the event, was led by junior Brock Kehres who is tied for 26th after shooting a 149 (+5). Senior Cameron Bruce is tied for 52nd with a +9 (153) while freshman Holden Sribner is tied for 73rd (+13 / 157) and senior Grant Ricketts is tied for 76th (+14 / 158).

The third and final round will be played tomorrow, Tuesday, Sep. 24 at Findlay Country Club. Live results will be available online.
