Oilers Smash School Records | Win Kyle Ryman

The University of Findlay men's golf team obliterated their 54-hole school record score with a 26-stroke win at the Kyle Ryman Memorial, which wrapped up final round competition on Oct. 6 at the Mohawk Golf and Country Club in Tiffin, Ohio. The Oilers fired a three-round score of 845 (281, 273, 291) to finish 19-under par as a team to better their previous 54-hole school record of 864 by 19 strokes.

Junior Tanner Grzegorczyk won the individual title at the tournament with a 7-under par score of 209. Grzegorczyk, who set a 36-hole school record with an 8-under par score of 136 (69, 67) during the first two rounds of competition, finished the event with a 1-over par 73 on Tuesday. His 54-hole score of 209 is the second-lowest total ever at Findlay, one shy of teammate Sam Griffith, who accomplished the feat last week at the Brickyard Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind.

Freshman Justin Atkinson and senior Luke Kelly both finished behind Grzegorczyk individually and tied for second place with a 4-under par 212, the fifth-lowest score in school history.

Atkinson shot an even-par 72 in the first round before going 3-under par at 69 in round two. He then closed the tournament with a 1-under par score of 71 on Tuesday. Kelly meanwhile opened the tournament with a 2-under 70 before shooting a 5-under par round of 67 in the second. He then shot a 3-over par 75 in round three for his final total.

Junior Caleb Westfall was the fourth Oilers player to record a top-5 finish at the event and tied for fifth at the tournament with an even-par 216 (70, 74, 72) while Griffith finished in a tie for 12th with a 3-over par score fo 219 (74, 70, 75) to round out the Oilers scoring for their "A" team.

As a team, the Oilers carded 60 birdies at the tournament. Grzegorczyk led the field with 16 while Kelly and Atkinson tied for second with 13.

Senior Brock Kehres paced the Oilers "B" team, which finished in eighth place with a 905 (303, 302, 300). Kehres tied for tenth individually after posting a 2-over score of 218. Kehres opened the tournament with a 73 before posting a 75 in round two. He then capped the event with a 2-under par score of 70 in the final round for this total.

Freshman Donnie Professori tied for 31st with a 228 (74, 75, 79), freshman Ty Schobelock tied for 48th with a 232 (72, 82, 78), junior Hunter Foltz tied for 53rd with a 233 (77, 81, 75), senior Parker Haynes tied for 53rd with a 233 (79, 78, 76), and sophomore Holden Scribner tied for 67th with a 236 (79, 74, 83).

The Oilers have now concluded the fall portion of their season and will return in the spring semester.
