Grzegorczyk and Schmitmeyer Earn Golf Athletes of the Week

Findlay, Ohio - The Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) announced their Golf Athletes of the Week on Thursday, April 15 and Findlay's Tanner Grzegorczyk and Jill Schmitmeyer both took home the honors after each earned medalist at their respective events the prior week. These are the final golf Athlete of the Week awards before both teams head to the conference championship held at the University Club of Kentucky's Big Blue Golf Course.

Junior Tanner Grzegorczyk earned his second Athlete of the Week honor this season after putting together an impressive tournament in harsh conditions at the Ken Partridge Invitational hosted by the University of Indianapolis at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana. In the first two rounds, Grzeforczyk battled wet conditions to shoot 76 (+4) and 74 (+2) which had him in a tie for 23rd. On the final day, the Findlay junior took his game to another level as he fired off a 66 (-6), the best round of the tournament and the second-best round in Oilers golf history. That round vaulted Grzegorczyk up the leaderboard and gave him a one-shot victory in the tournament at even-par. The tournament field was comprised of 17 teams including nine of the top 11 teams in the current midwest regional rankings. The win was Tanner's second of his career.

Junior Jill Schmitmeyer also put together a week to remember as she won the second tournament of her career at the Cav Classic hosted by Walsh University at Glenmoor Country Club in Canton, Ohio. Schmitmeyer led the ninth-ranked Oilers with the fourth-best 36-hole score in school history, a two-under 142, with a 70 (-2) in the first round and an even-par 72 in the second and final round. In the tournament, Schmitmeyer totaled 11 birdies which was second-best in the field en route to earning medalist honors.
