Oilers in 11th after Day 1 at Regionals

Kansas City, MO- The University of Findlay men's golf team took the course on Thursday, May 6 at the Midwest/Central Division II Regional Championship at Shoal Creek Golf Club. After day one, the Oilers are in a tie for 11th place overall after tallying a team score of 303. The Oilers currently sit 9 shots out of the qualifying placers for a chance to advance to the NCAA Division II National Championship.

The Oilers were led by senior Parker Haynes who fired a two-over par 73 in his opening round of the tournament. The round sits him in a tie for 19th overall. Junior Tanner Grzegorczyk followed behind Haynes with a 75 (+4) to place him in a tie for 36th.

Senior Luke Kelly tallied a 77 (+6), placing him in a tie for 53rd. Right behind Kelly is freshman Justin Atkinson in a tie for 56th after scoring a 78 (+7) in the first round.

Rounding out the Oilers was senior Brock Kehres in a tie for 79th. Kehres scored a 82 (+11) in his first 18 holes of the regional.

The Oilers will look to make a jump towards the top of the leaderboard tomorrow, May 7th in round two to make a run at a berth to the National Championship during the NCAA era.
