Team Effort Charges Oilers the Top | Leaders After Round 1

Bay City, Michigan- The University of Findlay men's golf team completed the first round of the Watrous Intercollegiate today, Saturday, Sep. 11 at Saginaw Valley Public Golf Course hosted by Saginaw Valley State University. The Oilers are currently in first place among the field of fifteen shooting a first round score of 284 (-4). 

The Oilers were led by Caleb Westfall and Donnie Professori after each shooting 70 (-2). Their scores place them in a tie for 5th place entering the final round. Senior Caleb Westfall led the field in birdies with five on the round. Sophomore Donnie Professori would contribute three on the round.  

Senior Parker Haynes assisted the Oilers with a 71 (-1). His consistent play leaves him in tie for 10th entering the final round. Rounding out the lineup were Tanner Grzegorczyk and Justin Atkinson. Senior Tanner Grzegorczyk shot 73 (+1), and sophomore Justin Atkinson was just one shot back of that with a 74 (+2). Grzegorczyk enters the final round in a tie for 23rd and Atkinson in a tie for 30th 

Creating a day for himself was senior Brock Kehres who is playing as an individual. Kehres led the charge with a 69 (-3). Kehres had four birdies on the day and one bogey. His three-under-par round puts him in a tie for 2nd, one behind the leader.  

Also competing for the Oilers as an individual is senior Hunter Foltz who shot a 73 (+1), leaving him in a tie for 23rd 

This is Findlay's second tournament of the fall and their first time sitting on top of the leaderboard this season. The Oilers played the par fives six-under-par for the day. They recorded 65 pars and 14 birdies as a team.  

The Oilers will be back for the final round tomorrow, Sunday, Sep. 12, 2021. They will have a shotgun start tomorrow at 9am.
