Oilers Dominate Watrous Intercollegiate | Westfall Earns All-Tournament Honors

Bay City, Michigan- The University of Findlay men's golf team captured the team title Sunday, Sep. 12 at the Watrous Intercollegiate hosted by Saginaw Valley State University at the Saginaw Valley Public Golf Course. The Oilers entered the round with a two-shot lead and went on to win the event by nine strokes to earn their first tournament win of the season. The Oilers shot a first round total of 284 (-4) then followed up with a 279 (-9), finishing the tournament at 13 under-par.  

The Oilers were led by senior Caleb Westfall who finished in a tie for second, earning himself all-tournament honors. Westfall shot 140 (-4) for the tournament after two sub-par rounds of 70 (-2). Westfall averaged 3.80 on the par fours for the weekend, the best of any player in the field. He would also make the most birdies with nine throughout the 36 holes.  

Following Westfall was senior Tanner Grzegorczyk who made a charge up the leaderboard in round two. He would finish the tournament in a tie for fifth place with a total of 141 (-3). His 68 (-4) today was the lowest round of the tournament. Also finding himself in the top-ten was senior Parker Haynes shot back-to-back 71 (-1) to finish the tournament tied for eighth place with a 142 (-2). Freshmen Justin Atkinson and Donnie Professori rounded out the lineup both finishing in a tie for 16th place with 144 (E).  

The Oilers ran away with the tournament shooting nine under-par today beating Saginaw Valley State University by nine. The 279 (-9) is the fourth lowest 18-hole score in Findlay history. The 563 (-13) is the fourth best 36-hole score in Findlay history. The Oilers dominated the team stats, leading in nearly every category. They averaged 4.01 (+1) on all par-fours and 4.73 (-11) on all par-fives. They led the tournament in the number of pars with 127, as well as birdies with 30 over the two days.  

Competing as individuals in the tournament were seniors Brock Kehres and Hunter Foltz. Brock Kehres tied for fifth place after rounds of 69 (-3) and 72 (E) with a total of 141 (-3). Hunter Foltz tied for 46th place after rounds of 73 (+1) and 76 (+4) with a total of 149 (+5). 

The Oilers will be back in action at home Sep. 20 and 21 at Findlay Country Club as they host the Doc Spragg Fall Invitational.
