Oilers in First After Day One of G-MAC Championship

Lexington, Ky.- The University of Findlay men's golf team is currently in first place at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship, which wrapped up day one today, Apr. 15 at The University Club of Kentucky, Big Blue Course. The Oilers finished at twelve over-par after rounds of 292 (+4) and 296 (+8). They lead by five shots over Hillsdale College. The leaderboard is tight from second place to fifth place as they are all within five.

The Oilers were once again led by senior standout Tanner Grzegorczyk. Grzegorczyk is in second place at two under-par. He shot back-to-back 71. He averaged even par on both the par threes and par fours. He took advantage of the par fives, playing them two-under on the day and averaging 4.75. 

Following Grzegorczyk was sophomore Donnie Professori. Professori is tied for third after finishing at two over-par. He shot rounds of 72 (E) and 74 (+2). Sophomore Justin Atkinson finished at six over-par. His rounds of 76 (+4) and 74 (+2) put him in a tie for 16th. Rounding out the lineup were seniors Parker Haynes and Brock Kehres. Haynes is in a tie for 25th at seven over-par (74,77) and Kehres is in a tie for 28th at eight over-par (75,77). 

The Oilers led the field in pars made today, making 117 on the day. They finished with 24 birdies on the day, the third best in the field. They also led the field in par four scoring, averaging 4.08 as a team. 

The Oilers will be back tomorrow for the final round at 8:45am. Following the final round, the top two teams will move to a medal match play segment. The teams will choose pairings and the teams will take to the course for a final 18 holes. The matches are decided by lowest cumulative strokes and each match is worth one point. The team with the most points at the end will be crowned the G-MAC Team Champion.
