Oilers Defeat #4 Notre Dame (OH) 2-1

The University of Findlay men's soccer team defeated #4 Notre Dame (OH) 2-1 on Tuesday, September 24 at DeHaven Field.

The Falcons jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Adam Mitchell scored at the 28 minute mark.  His goal was assisted by Elliot Kelly.

The Oilers then battled back and tied it up when senior Nick Naayers scored at the 62 minute mark off of an assist by sophomore Ryan Poyle

Sophomore Jared Lyon then scored the game-winning goal with just over five minutes to play in the contest as he punched the ball into the back of the net off of a pass from senior Alex Oliver.  

Goalkeeper Joe McClanahan picked up the win in the process and had five saves in the game. 

The Falcons held a 15-11 advantage in the shot department, but the Oilers defense remained strong throughout the game as they secured the upset victory in front of the home crowd.

The Oilers, who improve to 2-3-1 on the year, will face Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foe Saginaw Valley State University on the road on Friday, September 27 at 4:30 p.m.
